P8 entrance

Excellent trip round P8 (Jackpot) today. (Despite Martin having forgotten the survey!)

After changing in glorious sunshine Ed, Ian, Martin and Pete thankfully entered the cooler environment of the cave.

They quickly reached and descended the 1st pitch, followed soon by the 2nd pitch, both rigged direct in the water. Martin eventually found the way to the tube connecting Overflow Passage to the Main Stream Passage and the four squirmed their way through it.

They then made their way to downstream sump 1 with Martin pointing out where the mud pile once was below Ben's Dig.

After contemplating the sump and what lay beyond it, they returned upstream and had a good look around the Eldon Series, reached via the rope up to Ben's Dig, marvelling at the dedication and amount of work he'd put into the project, before returning to the streamway.

After Martin located the way up to Mud Hall, they returned to the 2nd pitch via it and Gour Passage.

After a rest they ascended the pitches and made an uneventful exit from the cave, emerging to a warm, though overcast evening.

They returned to Wetton for drinks at the Royal Oak Inn.

Darfar / Dafar
You should be aware that Darfar (as in Darfar Bridge, Pot, etc.) is misspelt as Dafar on OS maps of a certain scale. On larger scaled (more detailed) maps it is correct as you can see on the excellent Magic web site. This map shows the correct spelling and this one the incorrect spelling. (Then of course there's Darfur, which is a place in Africa...)
